Ah, Lady Lick-Penny…

In the words of the Laudanums…

“Without going into too much detail, there were accusations, games of hide and seek and several dead husbands who were all discovered with traces of succinylcholine in their systems. Please welcome back the innocent and the utterly not guilty, Lady Sophronia Lick-Penny!”

Shiny Helen…

You are about to be bombarded with a series of images from the Masters of Freak!! I did a photoshoot with the seriously twisted Laudanum Project a few weeks ago and it was a fun filled evening of hilarity and horror in equal measure. The Laudanums are a performance group from Melbourne and are about to embark on a new show that will premiere at the 2014 Fringe Festival. There will be more images coming…..but for now, I introduce you to Shiny Helen!   http://www.thelaudanumproject.net/

Honey Honey…

Another trip out in the country but this time I didn’t have to travel too far. Frank, from Heidi Honey, only lives 2 minutes away in my home town of Hurstbridge. I got to experience the bee hives close up (without protective gear….brave or stupid, not sure!) and learn a bit more about his organic honey production. He sells the honey with his wife and kids at St Andrews Market and also brews a mean chai at his stall! These images will feature in our St Andrews Market book along with the other local producers.

Capture Magazine….

Just picked up the latest Capture Magazine to find myself featured in the Talent section! So excited! Its nice to be sitting alongside the talented Fred Zhang who also got a feature (nice one Fred!).

I have been enjoying a bit of a rest these last couple of months, brewing a few ideas for the next series, but I think it is time to pick up my camera again. I am off to Toolangi to do a shoot for the St Andrews Project today and on Saturday I head out to to the victorian goldfields for another RACV mag story.

One Small Step…

Jordan…..imaginative, bright, a big dreamer. This shoot was the most fun I have had in ages! There were so many costume changes and he truly embodied each character with such conviction that it was easy to be caught up in the magic of it all. My inner child was having a ball!

This one was my favourite and I think it was Jordan’s too. His dream of becoming an astronaut is so firmly set in his mind that he has even investigated everything that he needs to do to get there. But who knows….another costume change and another dream. Why be limited to just one?

Nate, age 5…

This image of Nate was shot specifically for a group exhibition last year. Entitled “1 to 10”, the exhibition involved 10 photographers covering the ages 1 through 10. I was given age 5. I didn’t know Nate at all when I took this image, which can be a little challenging when they are as shy as he was. Once I had him talking about star wars, though (he likes the baddies best), he started to become a little more relaxed and I ended up with an interesting shot.

Lighting – one flash head shot through a large square soft box, right of camera at 45 degree angle.

Nun…

NUN is an image that I created for my first group exhibition, MIMIC, in 2010. The exhibition brief was to create an image that was inspired by another artist, a piece of music or poetry. It was a fairly broad brief, which is always helpful when you have 15 other photographers involved!

Even though I was fairly new to photography at the time, I had discovered the incredible work of photographer/digital artist, Oleg Dou. So, with the surrealist images of his nuns firmly in mind, this was the end result.
